The List

I will not have time for everything:

To build the business

To raise more children

To execute property and tax

To vacation in Spain

To sleep in

To breathe farm air

To read about God

To simmer the sauce

To wash the corners

To serve the roast

To elicit self-improvement

To watch the match with the men

To squirrel like a woman in the kitchen

To lunch with the many

To swap secrets with the few

To rise at night

To run at dawn

To remember history

To vote smart

To know news

To learn wine

To sell for profit

To maintain love

To escort parents in their demise

To chat the relatives

To print pictures

To mail RSVPs

To perfect gifts

To pray alone

I relinquish exhaustion and rush

I select the life of a writer whose clean feet

Have only this to do

  1. Having grown older now and with limitations multiplying I am surprised how very short my list has become. Not because I can’t do some things but because I have become content in the richness of less and am employing greater digression in the appointment of value.
